Travel Itinerary
Day 1
Santa Marta- Vereda De Calabazo -Buankuany
IF YOU ARE STAYING IN SANTA MARTA
We’ll pick you up at your accommodation in a 4×4 vehicle between 6:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. and begin our trip along the Caribbean trunk road that connects the department of Magdalena with La Guajira.
Once we reach the village of Calabazo at kilometer 21, we take a 15-minute detour down an unpaved road until we arrive at our starting point: Hotel Boutique MadreSierra. There, a local guide will welcome us, provide important recommendations, and explain the itinerary, offering an introduction to the flora and fauna we will encounter along the trail.
We begin a hike of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes along a moderately difficult path. The trail takes us across streams of crystal-clear water, cliffs, and native forest filled with massive fruit trees and centuries-old species like caracolí, higuerón, bejuco, and macondo, as well as gigantic rocks considered sacred by the Kogui culture. All of this creates a unique landscape in harmony with the unmatched biodiversity of the region.
Eventually, we’ll begin to see the first terraces of Bunkuany — one of the most important archaeological treasures of the Colombian Caribbean.
